Be on the safe side: a coating test during HDD procedures.

When laying high pressure pipelines using HDD, the pipe’s coating is subjected to severe mechanical stresses, so taking measurements to check for damage to the coating is absolutely essential. Any necessary repairs to the coating once a pipe has been pulled into its final position are extremely time-consuming and expensive. That’s why Steffel in collaboration with EWE Netz and Herrenknecht AG has developed a method which continuously monitors the pipe coating while the pipe is being pulled into the bore hole during a HDD procedure.
Since the technology can be used during a temporary halt in construction to measure the size and position of any damage, the advantage of the procedure is that any unacceptably large coating defects that occur can be acted on immediately.
