The Baltic Pipe Project

The Baltic Pipe Project is being developed by both GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. and Energinet.dk as co-investors. The 36” Baltic Pipe offshore pipeline will be installed between the east coast of Denmark and the northern coast of Poland with first gas scheduled to flow from Denmark to Poland in October 2022.
Baltic Pipe is recognised as an EU PCI project, with the purpose of the project being to further strengthen the European internal energy market by reaching the EU’s energy policy objectives of affordable, secure and sustainable energy.
The Baltic Pipe Project involves the construction of a new bi-directional gas pipeline system that will connect the existing gas transmission systems of Denmark and Poland and for the first time enable shippers to flow gas directly from Norway to the markets in Denmark, Poland and their neighbouring markets. Baltic Pipe will also allow shippers to flow gas from Poland to the Danish and Swedish markets.

Steffel KKS GmbH is proud to be involved with our clients in this important European project.

New GW11 specialist personnel at Steffel!

The GW11 guideline issued by the German Technical and Scientific Association for Gas and Water (DVGW) specifies the qualification requirements for companies specializing in cathodic protection. A company can have itself certified in accordance with this regulatory document and in order to be successfully certified it must have qualified management and supervisory staff in addition to its references and technical equipment.

EUGAL: A secure energy supply
for Europe – and we’re involved.

Eughal

The demand for natural gas in Europe is rising. The new EUGAL pipeline will significantly consolidate the security of the natural gas supply to Germany and Europe, and a big milestone has now been reached. Under construction for almost one and half years, the first string of the EUGAL European Gas Pipeline Link is now complete. From 2020 onwards, EUGAL will provide the transport capacity for another 30.9 billion cubic meters of gas per year. And we’re proud of ourselves: Steffel has been closely involved in the pipeline’s construction over virtually its entire length.

Only a pipeline that is working safely and reliably can be operated efficiently – that’s the reason one of Steffel’s priorities was to ensure the pipeline was laid flawlessly. Steffel’s personnel are now applying their commitment and expertise to completing the pipeline’s second string.

Further details on the EUGAL pipeline are available here.

Steffel involved in the ZEELINK project

ZEELINK is the largest single project in the National Development Plan Gas 2015 (NEP) of the Federal Network Agency. The gas pipeline connects to the LNG terminal in Zeebrugge and thus contributes to route and source diversification to supply Germany with natural gas. Steffel KKS GmbH, in cooperation with KORUPP GmbH, provides for the extensive project the necessary capacity. In addition to the supply of protective current devices for CP, the assessment of coating quality and measurements during construction, measures to reduce the interference of high voltage from nearby OHL are an essential part of the scope of works.

You can also find out more about Zeelink here.

Future Day – Visiting Steffel for a closer look.

Schoolchildren had an interesting day at Steffel’s headquarters in Lachendorf this year with a little theory and a lot of practical application. There was plenty to do and discover: both in electrical occupations and also in our departments dealing with IT and high-voltage interference. Many thanks go to the boys and girls who were so curious and showed so much interest in cathodic protection. We’re looking forward to the next group of children coming through in 2020.

Things are progressing rapidly with the PIAMO project.

Steffel is substantially involved in the PIAMO project, and there is good news to report on its progress. The joint project undertaken by Steffel and Mannesmann Line Pipe called PIAMO (Pipeline Attack Monitoring) serves to reliably analyze CP and acoustic signals so that damage to pipelines can be detected early. Steffel is developing a software module for this purpose that will be integrated into the new generation of ISM2010 CP station modules. The good news is that three quarters of the development work has now been completed.
